Dzama's new film Une danse des bouffons (or A jester's dance) at David Zwirner is a mesmerizing redux of a Dadaist sensibility. At times the film felt a little overwrought but as the tale spun out I found myself being drawn in to his absurdest universe....jesters, tricksters, bull's, dancers, kidnappings, love, and death, rebirth, it's all in there although I could live without the persistent nods to his artist idols from Duchamp, to Goya, Beuys, Picabia.... was a little heavy handed.
There were two rooms of drawings, boxes and sculpture which functioned more as set design or ephemera, but the film made up for what the they lacked.
