I was going to say a million years ago, but it was really the mid-1990's, Kerry James Marshall was included in a show at the Chicago Cultural Center. They were doing exceptional programming at the time.and the exhibition included some of what have become his best known works such as
Better Homes and Gardens. I was bowled over by his paintings of middle class life as well as the way he painted, he could be loose and tight simultaneously and he was the only painter I knew who could include gold leafing and make it work. This new show at
David Zwirner in London sees Marshall return from his foray into the Rocco digging back in to the present.
